Why does it matter?
Today, cities face a new generation of challenges from climate change, biodiversity loss, water management, resource inefficiency and waste, to social inequalities and injustices, which demand a paradigm shift in the way urban spaces are envisioned, planned and managed. The integration of green and blue infrastructure together with circular economy principles and nature-based solutions (NbS) can help tackle these challenges while enhancing biodiversity and building resilience against climate change risks and environmental stressors. REROAD aims to enable the transformation of urban streets into multifunctional public spaces.
Project funding: European Partnership “Driving Urban Transitions to a Sustainable Future (DUT)”
Project results: REROAD will deliver a masterplan for biocentric, circular, and just streetscape transformation, supported by a street atlas, NbS selector tool, and a portfolio of circular business models.
Project partners: Kaunas University of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra, University of Granada, alongside with research centres and the cities of Bolzano (Italy), Coimbra (Portugal) and Granada (Spain).
Period of project implementation: January 2026 – December 2028
This project has been funded by MUR, Formas, AEI, FCT, LMT under the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership, which has been co-funded by the European Commission.
