The Circular Economy and Paradoxical Tensions

Important | 2024-05-02

The circular economy and its paradoxical contradictions – what do companies need to choose and what do they need to give up in order to succeed in circular value chains?
This April, KTU team of Lina Dagilienė, Jurgita Bruneckienė, Viktorija Varaniūtė, Asta Tarutė and Justina Banionienė organised an expert discussion on the paradoxical tensions Lithuanian companies face in the circular transformation process.

The expert discussion highlighted several inter-organisational tensions prevailing in the context of Lithuanian manufacturers. Many manufacturers face difficulties in aligning strategic objectives, the different levels of readiness of actors and the allocation of resources across the value chain. Moreover, producers often face resource constraints in choosing between virgin raw materials and the use of recycled raw materials in production, as this affects perceived lower product quality or higher product price. It has also been noted that the tensions that exist may be common to all producers, but may also vary according to the specificities of the sector.

Many thanks to all the experts Raimondas Lukauskas, Inga Matijošytė, Simona Petrikaitė, Ieva Ragauskienė, Lina Stanionytė, Jurgita Stankūnienė, Teresė Škutaitė, Inga Valančienė, Visvaldas Varžinskas, Remigijus Veikalas and Vlada Vitunskienė for an interesting discussion and insights!

There are two sides to the circular economy – production and consumption, and in our May discussion we will look at the paradoxical contradictions between consumers and service providers.
