Driving Impact: from Research to Real-World Change as Students Tackle Circular Challenges

Important | 2025-10-31

As part of the Hands-On challenge (in Kaunas University of Technology, School of Economics and Business), representatives of the Circular Economy Research Group delivered a series of thematic modules to students, introducing them to key concepts of the circular economy. Through sessions dedicated to the circular economy concept, circular business models, and circular value chains, students gained a comprehensive understanding of how circularity can transform industrial sectors and strengthen sustainability performance. The modules served as both an academic foundation and a practical orientation for tackling real-life industry challenges.

Throughout the Hands-On project, the research group acted not only as lecturers but also as knowledge transfer partners, sharing insights from ongoing scientific research. By grounding the teaching materials in up-to-date academic findings, the experts helped students apply theory to practice while analysing UAB IREMAS’ circularity opportunities, ranging from waste minimisation solutions to servitisation-based business model innovations. This strengthened the scientific rigor of the students’ analyses and encouraged evidence-based decision-making.

By engaging in this collaborative Hands-On challenge, the Circular Economy Research Group contributes directly to creating societal and industrial impact. Empowering students to work with real industry cases enhances their competencies in sustainable innovation, while supporting companies in exploring circular solutions increases the visibility and relevance of scientific research. In this way, the initiative demonstrates how university–industry cooperation accelerates progress towards a more resource-efficient and climate-neutral future.
