Why does it matter?
This project is a first step towards German-Baltic co-operation in research on sustainability management and reporting factors in retailing. The project aims to form a network that will improve sustainability management and reporting in retailing. This network includes members of the Baltic and German academic community (researchers, students) and retail practitioners / business associations / public authorities.
The retail sector accounts for 31% of GDP and creates jobs for billions of people around the world, and as much as 35% of global retail revenue is generated by supermarkets. Retailers have a significant impact on sustainability issues due to their position in the supply chain – they are the link between manufacturers and buyers (Wilson, 2015). Although the economic, environmental and social characteristics of sustainable management are well known, much less information can be found on sustainable management and accountability in the retail sector, especially in the Baltic States. Project-based collaboration will lead to the development of a methodology to identify factors influencing sustainability management and reporting in retailing. A pilot study is also being carried out – an analysis of cases of sustainability management and reporting of retail chains in the project countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Germany. Based on the obtained results, scientific products will be prepared and publicized.
The aim of the project is to design a methodology for identification of drivers influencing retailers’ sustainability management and reporting. In addition, a pilot study (cases studies of selected retailers’) will be conducted both in Germany and the Baltic countries. The research aim – how to get deep knowledge about evolution of sustainability management and reporting in retailing.
Period of project implementation: 2019-03-01 – 2019-10-15 (for more information see here)
